This is my last Sketch A Day entry for 2023, but probably also the last one for a while.

December was incredibly hectic and traumatic, and I need time to heal and focus on myself and my family.

Doing Sketch a Day for a full year was fun for the most part, as I really got to challenge myself in ways I otherwise wouldn’t have. I learned a lot. But at the same time it is incredibly time consuming, and it feels like a fail when I can’t make the deadline.

Despite me being sick/poorly often, I never lost my streak. That is, until my youngest son Levi got sick. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I don’t blame my kid! But I VERY quickly lost interest when I lost my streak of 348 days by a few minutes, and even more when I was in the hospital with my kid, as I’m sure you understand. I kept it up, as a distraction for myself, and because Levi loves seeing my drawings. But I lost the drive and love to participate for sure. I also cancelled my paid Sketch a Day subscription the moment I lost my streak, and I won’t be renewing it either.

In 2024 I will still create art/illustrations, but more on seasonal prompts and my own ideas/themes, rather than prompts from an app.

I am not saying I will never upload anything via Sketch a Day anymore, just not every day.

As for today’s prompt, which is King, I decided to try my very best to draw Freddie Mercury from Queen. The last days of the year we listen to and watch the Top 2000, which is literally a top list of 2000 songs people vote for. The #1 is always Bohemian Rhapsody, as it’s the best song of all time, according to the majority of the voters. I decided to dedicate the “King” prompt to Freddie Mercury from Queen, as he's the King of the Top 2000 in a way, and it's symbolic to end the year with this.

I am going to shock everyone by saying that, yes, I know it is far from perfect, but this one is pretty damn awesome. And I’m really proud of this one!

I used a reference photo on my computer, while drawing on my iPad. So the proportions are off. But that just makes it more impressive imo. 😂
